Effective Schooling

The Schools Institute will provide a fresh perspective on effective schools and districts by developing new reportable information to help identify and celebrate effective schools and districts that make a difference to their students.

The immediate focus for the Schools Institute will be on schools and districts which have significant improvement in student achievement over time. The first step in this process is to highlight school districts which have improved FSA achievement from May 2000 to May 2003 .

The results, based on following matched cohorts of students, can be found in each district's 2003 District Key Information binder. This backgrounder describes matched cohorts and shows what these pages look like.

The results for each of the 59 geographically-based districts in British Columbia - that is, excluding SD 93 (Conseil Scolaire Francophone) and excluding independent schools - show which districts achieved the greatest gains in average FSA scores for their students. The three districts in each of four categories which achieved the greatest gains in average FSA scores are listed below. There are no results for FSA Writing because the 2000 FSA Writing results are not comparable to the 2003 FSA Writing results.
